  • Africa RISING farming technologies reach 60,000 households in Ethiopia

    The Africa RISING project in the Ethiopian highlands has reached over 60,000 beneficiaries in the first year of the project’s second phase.

    In a recent interview with the Ethiopian Herald newspaper, Kindu Mekonnen, senior scientist with the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) and the project’s coordinator in Ethiopia, said that the project has reached more than 60,000 households and improved grain legume yields in over 20,000 hectares of land in Amhara, Oromia, Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples’, and Tigray regional states.

    He said the project has introduced a feed trough technology that was invented in Ethiopia, which has reduced the wastage of fodder. ‘This technology has gained acceptance by the farmers and we have plans to promote it in other African and Asian countries,’ he said.
