Irrigated fodder opportunities for small-scale farmers in Ethiopia
August 5, 2016 Editor 0
Africa RISING and the Innovation Laboratory for Small Scale Irrigation (ILSSI) funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) under Feed the Future, are partnering with the Livestock and Irrigation Value Chain for Ethiopian Smallholders (LIVES) project funded by Global Affairs Canada to evaluate irrigated fodder in Ethiopia.
In the irrigation season of 2015 Africa RISING introduced irrigation scheduling of oats and vetch in Ethiopia’s Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples’ Region region.
Last week, the preliminary results were combined with research by ILSSI on Napier and Desho grasses and shared with the Ethiopian Agricultural Transformation Agency. ATA will use the data as part of its work on developing a national strategy for Irrigated Fodder.
