  • Gene breakthrough could boost rice yields by 20 percent

    A Nepalese farmer walks past rice paddy fields at Khokana village on the outskirts of Kathmandu in July 2012. Scientists said they had developed a strain of rice that grows well in soils that lack the nutrient phosphorus, a feat that could boost crop yields for some farmers by as much as a fifth.
