In a good application of Open Innovation to an important environmental problem, the InnoCentive’s Open Innovation Platform is being used to search for ways to reduce the amount of fertilizer that escapes into the environment, according to an article in the Daily Crowd Source. The Environmental Defense Fund and the Iowa Soybean Association have formed a joint venture, the Eco-Challenge Series, to search for ways to reduce the amount of fertilizer that escapes into rivers and lakes and to improve how farmers measure the effectiveness of their fertilizer management processes.
